Spend Request Review Predictions
Overview
Available on Ramp Plus. See Ramp Plus overview for plan details.
Note: This article applies to Admins and Owners who review fund spend requests.
Spend request review predictions are AI-powered recommendations that help admins make faster, more informed decisions when reviewing fund spend requests. When you review a spend request, you see a recommendation — Approval recommended, Review recommended, or Rejection recommended — along with the reasoning behind it.
Predictions are available to Ramp Plus customers with an uploaded policy document. Predictions are generated automatically — no separate activation is required.
How predictions work
When you open a fund spend request for review, the Spend Request Agent analyzes the request and generates a recommendation. The agent evaluates:
- Request details — fund name, requested amount, currency, spending interval (one-time or recurring), memo, and request type (new fund or change to an existing fund)
- Requester information — name, email, and department
- Existing funds — the requester's current funds, remaining balances, and spending in the current cycle
- Pending requests — other pending spend requests from the same requester
- Budget context — budget name, budget amount, variance, and issued spend when available
- Spend Programs — available Spend Programs and their guidance
- Policy document — relevant sections of your business's uploaded expense policy, retrieved using semantic search
For change requests (edits to an existing fund), the agent evaluates the difference from the current fund rather than treating the request as a new fund.
Where to see predictions
Predictions appear in three places:
- Inbox — Go to Inbox > Funds . The Recommendation column shows a badge for each request. Hover over the badge to see the reasoning.
- Request detail page — Click any spend request to open its detail page. A colored banner displays the recommendation with a brief explanation of the reasoning.
- Homepage — Spend requests pending your review on the Homepage show the recommendation as a text label next to the request.
Understanding recommendations
Each prediction produces one of three recommendations:
| Recommendation | What it means |
|---|---|
| Approval recommended | The request aligns with your policy and the agent identified no significant risk factors. |
| Review recommended | The agent identified factors that need human judgment, such as a potential overlap with an existing fund, a mismatch with a spend program, or ambiguous policy coverage. This recommendation also appears when the agent does not have enough context to make a confident recommendation. |
| Rejection recommended | The agent identified a clear policy violation with no in-policy alternative. |
Recommendations are suggestions only. As a reviewer, you always have final authority to approve or reject any spend request regardless of the recommendation.
Each recommendation includes a rationale explaining the agent's reasoning, including references to relevant sections of your policy document.
Providing feedback
You can help improve future predictions by providing feedback on any recommendation:
- Open a spend request with a prediction on the request detail page.
- Click the thumbs up or thumbs down button next to the recommendation.
- Optionally enter a reason for your feedback in the text box.
- Click Submit feedback .
Your feedback helps the system learn your business's approval patterns and improve the accuracy of future recommendations. Once you submit feedback on a prediction, the feedback buttons are hidden for that request.

Frequently asked questions

Admins and Owners who review fund spend requests. Other roles, including budget owners and managers, do not see spend request predictions at this time. For transaction and reimbursement predictions, admins can extend visibility to all reviewers through Settings > Expense Policy.
Can I turn off spend request review predictions?
There is no per-user or per-business setting to disable spend request review predictions. Predictions are generated automatically for Ramp Plus businesses with a published policy document. The feature is on by default and cannot be individually disabled.
What should I do if a recommendation is inaccurate?
Click the thumbs down button on the recommendation and optionally describe what was wrong. Your feedback is used to improve future predictions. Regardless of the recommendation, you always have final authority to approve or reject the request.
How can I improve the accuracy of recommendations?
Keep your policy document up to date and comprehensive.
