Auto-termination with SCIM
Overview
Auto-termination is a feature for businesses using SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) that helps complete user offboarding automatically after a user is deactivated in your identity provider.
When enabled, Ramp will schedule eligible SCIM-deactivated users for termination after a configurable waiting period, reducing manual admin work while maintaining safeguards for in-flight financial activity.
Auto-termination is available only to businesses that are already onboarded with SCIM. Users deactivated manually in Ramp are not eligible. For information about manually deactivating or terminating users, see Deactivating and removing users from Ramp.

How auto-termination works
- A user is deactivated via SCIM in your identity provider.
- The user is automatically deactivated in Ramp .
- If the user meets all eligibility criteria, they are scheduled for termination .
- The user is terminated after the configured number of days unless an admin takes action.
Eligibility and exclusion criteria
A SCIM-deactivated user will not be auto-terminated if they have any of the following:
- Outstanding reimbursements
- Open bills
- Pending or incomplete transactions
- Pending approval workflows
- Ownership of shared funds
- Elevated permissions (such as admin roles)
These checks ensure that termination does not interrupt financial workflows or approvals.
Default termination timeline
When auto-termination is enabled for the first time, the default timeline is 45 days. This is the same value you will see in your SCIM auto-termination settings. You can change this to any number of days greater than 0.
Viewing scheduled terminations
Admins can view upcoming terminations in the Inactive Users tab. A "Days until termination" column shows which users are scheduled and how many days remain before termination occurs.
Admin actions for scheduled users
For any user scheduled for auto-termination, admins can:
Cancel termination
- The user remains deactivated .
- No further automated action will occur.
Terminate immediately
- The user is terminated right away.
- This bypasses the remaining waiting period.
Managing auto-termination settings
To configure auto-termination:
- Go to Settings > Integrations > SCIM .
- Locate the Auto-Termination for SCIM-Deactivated Users section.
- Update the number of days until termination , or toggle the feature off .
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I disable auto-termination?
Auto-termination will stop running for all users. A banner appears in the Inactive Users tab indicating the feature is disabled. The banner remains until auto-termination is re-enabled. Users who were already scheduled for termination will no longer be terminated automatically.
What happens to users who don't meet the eligibility criteria?
Users who fail eligibility checks remain deactivated in Ramp but are not scheduled for termination. Once the blocking condition is resolved (for example, an outstanding reimbursement is processed), the user becomes eligible and will be scheduled for auto-termination on the next check.
Does auto-termination apply to users deactivated directly in Ramp?
No. Auto-termination only applies to users deactivated via SCIM. If you deactivate a user directly in Ramp, they will not be scheduled for auto-termination. To terminate a manually deactivated user, see Deactivating and removing users from Ramp.
