Ramp spend management overview

Note: This article primarily applies to Ramp Administrators. Cardholders may find other articles in the Ramp overview section to be more applicable.

Overview

Ramp helps finance teams control company spend before, during, and after a purchase. Admins can issue cards and Spend Programs with limits, collect required documentation, route approvals, review expenses, and sync spend data from one platform.

Key features of Ramp's spend management

Card and Spend Program controls: Admins can set limits and restrictions for physical cards, virtual cards, and Spend Programs. See Setting up controls on Ramp cards and funds.

Receipt and memo requirements: Admins can require receipts, memos, and other transaction details based on company policy. Ramp can automatically match receipts to transactions and remind employees when information is missing.

Spend requests and approvals: Employees can request spend, cards, or limit changes in Ramp. Admins and approvers can review those requests before spend happens, then keep the approved spend tied to the right policy and accounting fields.

Expense review automation: Ramp can flag transactions that need review, enforce policy requirements, and help reviewers focus on exceptions. Advanced workflows and Policy Agent features may require Ramp Plus.

Accounting and reporting: Ramp connects spend activity to accounting and reporting workflows so finance teams can review, code, and sync transactions with fewer manual steps.
