Preview Mode
What is Preview Mode?
Preview Mode is a read-only feature that allows administrators to view Ramp exactly as another user sees it. This enables quick troubleshooting of user issues and validation that permissions and controls are working as expected.

Who can use Preview Mode?
Preview Mode is available to users with the Administrator or Owner role. Admins and Owners can preview the accounts of users with the following roles:
- Employee
- Manager
- Accounting
- Accounts Payable
- Guest
- Auditor
- Vendor Network Admin
Note: If a user has multiple roles, some combinations may not be available for preview.
How to access Preview Mode
- Visit the People tab on the left side of your Ramp dashboard
- Select the user you want to preview
- Click Preview in the user profile
- You'll see a banner at the top of the screen indicating you're in Preview Mode
- To exit, click Exit Preview in the banner
Note: Preview Mode is read-only. You cannot make changes or take actions while in this mode.
What you'll see in Preview Mode
When previewing a user's account, you'll see:
- Their transactions and expense history
- Their card details and fund balances
- The navigation and menu options available to their role
- Expense policies and approval workflows as they apply to them
- Any action items or missing items assigned to them
You willnotbe able to:
- Make any changes, submit expenses, or take actions
- See other users' data through the previewed user's account
- Access admin-level settings or controls while in Preview Mode
Use cases for Preview Mode
Preview Mode helps administrators:
- Troubleshoot user issues: See exactly what a user sees to quickly identify problems without needing to contact support
- Validate permissions: Confirm that users have the correct access to features and data
- Verify controls: Ensure that expense policies, approval workflows, and other controls are working as intended
- Support change management: Preview how changes will affect different users before rolling them out
Frequently asked questions
Is Preview Mode logged?
Yes. Preview Mode sessions are logged for audit purposes.
Can I preview an admin's or owner's account?
No. Preview Mode is available for non-admin roles only.
Can I take actions in Preview Mode?
No. Preview Mode is strictly read-only. To take actions on behalf of a user, use the Assistant role instead.
