Business Central blocked this sync because a journal line with the same line number already exists in the specified Journal Template Name and Journal Batch Name. This article explains why the error happens and how to resolve it.

Why this Business Central sync error happens

When Ramp syncs a card transaction, it writes it as lines in the Business Central journal named by the error's Journal Template Name and Journal Batch Name (typically the GENERAL template and the RAMP batch). Business Central — not Ramp — assigns the line number for each new line, so Ramp cannot change or renumber it.

Business Central rejects the sync when the line number it selects is already taken by another line in that batch. Ramp automatically retries this sync several times, so when the error still reaches you, a line is persistently occupying that number — commonly unposted journal lines left in the Ramp batch from an earlier sync.

Resolve the error in Business Central

Have someone who manages your accounting review the journal batch in Business Central and clear the conflict before re-syncing.

  1. In Business Central, open the journal identified by the error's Journal Template Name and Journal Batch Name.
  2. Review the lines currently in that batch and clear the conflicting one:
    • Post the pending journal lines that are valid and ready. Posting moves them out of the batch and frees the line number.
    • Delete a line only if you confirm it is a stale or duplicate entry that should not be there. Do not remove a line you don't recognize — it may be a valid entry unrelated to this sync.
  3. Once the conflicting line is cleared from the batch, re-sync the transaction from Ramp.

After the sync succeeds, confirm the transaction appears only once in Business Central. If it still fails to sync after the batch is cleared, contact Ramp Support.
