QuickBooks Online integration: Ramp support for QBO and Intuit Enterprise Suite
Ramp integrates with QuickBooks Online (QBO) and Intuit Enterprise Suite (IES) to sync transactions, bills, and accounting data.
This article explains how the integration works and what features Ramp supports today.
Understanding QuickBooks Online vs. Intuit Enterprise Suite
QuickBooks Online (QBO) is Intuit’s cloud accounting platform.
Intuit Enterprise Suite (IES) builds on top of QBO. It includes additional tools for larger or more complex businesses.
From an integration perspective:
- IES uses the same underlying platform and APIs as QBO
- Ramp uses one integration for both QBO and IES
- If you upgrade from QBO to IES, your Ramp integration continues working without changes
How Ramp’s QuickBooks Online integration works
Ramp syncs accounting data between Ramp and QuickBooks. This includes:
- Expenses and card transactions
- Bills and bill payments
- Vendors
- Accounts and categories
Ramp sends finalized transactions from Ramp into QuickBooks so they can be recorded in your accounting system.
The same integration supports both QBO customers and IES customers.
Custom fields support
Many companies use custom fields in QuickBooks to track additional information on transactions.
Examples include:
- Project codes
- Cost centers
- Client names
- Internal reporting tags
Ramp supports QuickBooks Online custom fields and Intuit Enterprise Suite custom dimensions.
- QuickBooks Online custom fields are available on the Ramp Plus plan and above for supported transaction types.
- Intuit Enterprise Suite custom dimensions are available on the Ramp Plus plan and above for supported transaction types.
Projects and Intuit Enterprise Suite custom dimensions
QuickBooks Projects help you track client work in QuickBooks Online. In Ramp, these sync into the Customer/Job tracking category.
Intuit Enterprise Suite custom dimensions are separate tracking fields, such as departments or cost centers.
Ramp supports QuickBooks Projects through the Customer/Job tracking category in Ramp.
Intuit Enterprise Suite custom dimensions are supported separately for supported transaction types and can be enabled from Accounting > Settings.
Multi-Entity accounting
Some businesses use multiple entities within Intuit Enterprise Suite.
Due to QuickBooks platform limitations:
- Each entity must be connected to its own Ramp account
- Ramp cannot manage multiple QuickBooks entities within a single connection
If you manage multiple entities, you will connect Ramp to each QuickBooks company separately.
Intercompany transactions
Ramp does not currently support intercompany transactions between entities in QuickBooks.
Transactions must be recorded separately within each connected company.
What happens when you upgrade from QBO to IES?
If you move from QuickBooks Online to Intuit Enterprise Suite, your Ramp connection will continue working.
Because IES runs on the same QuickBooks platform:
- Your existing integration remains active
- No reconnection or migration is required
- Your accounting sync continues as normal
