What is 3DS?
3D Secure (3DS) is a common credit card authentication method that's used for Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). SCA is a European regulatory requirement to reduce fraud and improve security for online and contactless payments. While SCA is required in most European countries, there are other regions where merchants commonly require 3DS to mitigate risk.
How do I know if a merchant requires 3DS?
When you're at the payment step of the checkout flow, typically a new "waiting" screen will appear that suggests the payment is being verified with your bank. If your payment fails at this step, it's likely due to 3DS.
Are Ramp cards enrolled in 3DS?
Yes, most Ramp cards are enrolled in 3DS, which means you should not expect any issues using your Ramp card at an online merchant that requires 3DS. Keep in mind that Ramp still performs its normal fraud and card restriction checks, and will decline the payment if it is suspicious or violates any of your company's card rules, in which case you will receive a notification with the decline reason.
