Reporting Agent
Overview
Reporting Agent lets you ask questions about your company’s spend in plain English, and instantly receive charts, insights, and answers. No need to build reports manually or dig through filters. Just type your question, and Ramp’s AI will do the work.
With Reporting Agent, you can:
- Ask natural-language questions about your Ramp data
- Instantly generate reports with visualizations and summaries
- Drill into trends by vendor, department, category, or time period
- Chat with the AI to refine your question or ask follow-ups
- Export or share reports with teammates (based on permissions)
How it works
Simply ask a question, and Ramp's AI will build the appropriate visualizations and provide relevant insights.
- Access Reporting Agent: Open Add report. At the top, you will see the entry point to ask a question.
- Ask your first question: Be specific about period, department, category, or vendor for sharper results. You can ask analytical questions in plain English across multiple spend records or time periods, such as totals, comparisons, breakdowns, rankings, and trends. It doesn't support requests for details or calculations about a single transaction, standalone math, unfiltered raw rows or CSV exports, vendor discovery, or charts of data you provide.
- Interpret the results: Review the AI-generated report with charts, tables, and insights. Use interactive elements to explore the data and ask follow-up questions to dive deeper into specific areas.
- Iterate with chat: Ask follow‑ups like “break this down by department” or “show last quarter vs this quarter.”
- Save and share: To save an AI-generated report, open the report from the icon in the top-right corner of the Reporting Agent results. In the report, click Save to dashboard. You can’t save the report directly from the AI creation panel. After saving, you can share or export it like any other report if your role has access.
- Contextual AI access: You can also launch Reporting Agent from existing reports and ask questions without switching tabs or losing your place by clicking on the chart and selecting ‘Ask Ramp’
Access-dependent alternatives for unsupported Reporting Agent requests
- Single transaction: If you can view company transactions, open Card transactions, search for the transaction, and select View transaction.
- CSV export: If you have Reporting access, open Reports, select the dashboard containing the saved semantic report, open the report, and select Download data (CSV).
- Vendor search: If you have vendor access, open Vendors, search for the vendor, and select View vendor.
- Uploaded data: If Ask Ramp is available, open Ask Ramp, attach a CSV or Excel file, and ask a question about it, including requesting a chart. The Reporting Agent prompt doesn't accept files.
- Standalone math: Reporting Agent doesn't provide an alternative for standalone math.
Sample use cases
1. Department Spend Analysis: Ask "How much did the marketing department spend this quarter compared to last quarter?"
2. Vendor Spend Tracking: Ask "Which vendors did we spend the most money with last month?"
3. Spend Optimization: Ask "Which vendors increased 30%+ this quarter vs last?" or "List duplicate SaaS tools by department"
4. Period-End Reconciliation: Ask "List all unmatched transactions over $500 from October" or "What are the top 5 spend categories with MoM deltas as a table?"
5. Executive Ad Hoc Analysis: Ask "How much did we spend on travel last month compared to our pre-pandemic average?"
