Paying by card
Ramp Bill Pay lets you use both your existing cards and one-time virtual cards to pay your bills. This is a great way to take advantage of that sweet 1.5% cash back if your vendor accepts Visa cards.
Using an existing card: to use an existing card, all you need to do is select 'Existing Ramp Card' as the Payment Type in the New Bill process and securely share the card details with your vendor. We will search that card's transactions and automatically match the transaction to the bill. If we made the wrong match, you can manually correct it on the For Payment page. Note: you can only match a cleared transaction (i.e. no longer 'Pending'). Wait to match the transaction until it has cleared.
Using a one-time virtual card: in the New Bill process, select 'One-time Virtual Card' as the Payment Type. We will generate unique card details and, once the bill gets approved, you'll find the bill and the payment details waiting for you in the For Payment page. The card details won't be available until after the bill is fully approved. Clicking into the bill will show you the card details for this one-time use virtual card. Share the details with your vendor and the payment will happen instantly. The card will last for 60 day after it's created.
One-time virtual card or an existing card?: We recommend using a one-time virtual card if you're concerned that the vendor will overcharge or if the vendor relationship is a one-off. An existing card should be used for recurring charges to a vendor.
Payment timeline: money will instantly move to the vendor as soon as they process transaction.
When are bill marked as paid: Bill payments made by card will be marked as paid in your connected ERP once the card is charged and processed by your vendor. The bill payment will be marked as paid in Ramp once the card transaction is matched to the bill payment.
Maximum amount: your maximum amount payable by either card product will depend on your limit and current balance. Because these are card payments, the amount spent will be added to your current balance. For more information about limits: How do Ramp limits work?
Paying by ACH
ACH payments to your vendors has never been easier or faster with Bill Pay. Here's more information to help you make ACH payments.
Payment timeline: ACH payments take either 2 or 5 business days (don't worry, we're making them even faster), depending on Bill Pay usage to-date and information about your limit and connected bank accounts.
Maximum payment: when paying by ACH, there is no maximum amount.
Bill Pay dates explained:
-
- Due date: the date that the vendor expects the payment to arrive
- Payment date: the date the payment leaves your account
- Estimated arrival: the date the payment will be delivered to the vendor
When are bills marked as paid: Bill payments via ACH will be marked as paid in your connected ERP once Ramp withdraws (debits) funds from your connected account. The bill payment will be marked as paid in Ramp once the bill payment funds have been credited and received by your vendor. See more information about Bill Pay Accounting: Bill Pay Accounting
What do ACH payments look like in my bank statement:As a Ramp customer, your bank statement will show "{{ Vendor Name }} {{Invoice Number }} BILL PAY". Your vendor's bank statement will show "{{ Business Name }} {{ Invoice Number }} BILL PAY".
For example, if your company is called Cafe Kramer and you are paying invoice 018 to Jerry Donuts, your payment to the vendor will show as "JERRY DONUTS 018 BILL PAY". Jerry Donuts will see this on their bank statement for the same payment: "CAFE KRAMER 018 BILL PAY".
Paying with Flex
Ramp Flex is an extended payment terms solution that lets you manage your cash flow and optimize your cash conversion cycle, all in a few simple clicks! With Ramp Flex, Ramp will pay your vendors today, and you will pay Ramp back later, for a small fee. You can read more about how it works here: Ramp Flex Overview.
Ramp Flex currently supports payments to vendors with US-based bank accounts via ACH. We initiate the payment of the bill amount on your behalf two business days before the scheduled payment date, ensuring your vendor receives their payment on the date that you scheduled it for (note: you will not be able to add Flex financing to a bill while it is being paid). We collect the repayment from your bank account at the end of the loan’s tenor, unless you choose to repay early.
How to Flex a bill:
- Create a bill manually, upload an invoice via drag-and-drop or the upload option, or forward a PDF invoice to your AP address (more information here)
- Once the bill details are entered, navigate to the payment method
- The bill will have the option to 'Finance with Flex' if it is eligible and your remaining Flex limit is sufficient
- Select your desired tenor between 30, 60, and 90 days. We'll pay the vendor on the payment date and you will pay us back later (note: you'll always have the option for early repayment; you can initiate an early repayment if the vendor has already been paid. We'll prorate the fee based on the number of days since vendor payment)
- Press 'Review Bill' when you're ready to proceed
- Give it a final review then select 'Create Bill'
- Your bill will go through the necessary approval steps before the vendor is paid
- Once it has been approved and paid, you'll see it in the Bill Pay → Flex page
What do ACH payments look like in my bank statement: As a Ramp Customer, your bank statement will show “{{Customer name}} PAYING RAMP FINANCING” if your bill doesn’t have an invoice number or “{{Customer name}} PAYING RAMP FINANCING FOR {{invoice number}}” if your bill has an invoice number.
Paying by check
Bill Pay lets you pay your US-based vendors with check. Here's useful information to know when making check payments
Payment timeline: Ramp will withdraw funds from your connected bank account on the scheduled date of your bill. Once Ramp receives these funds, we will issue a check to your vendor. After paying the bill, the paper check should be delivered to the vendor within 4-7 business days. If a check is not cashed within 180 days of its issuance, Ramp will automatically void the check.
Whats printed on the checks: our checks will have the amount, the name of the business paying, and a check memo pulled from the Vendor Memo field in the Ramp bill. No signature is required as Ramp issues the check on your company's behalf.
Delivering Ramp checks: our checks take about 4-7 business days to reach your vendor and if you schedule a payment for a date beyond six business days, we will ensure it reaches the vendor on time. If you schedule a check payment on a non-business day (holiday or weekend), we will send it on the following business day.
Confirming a check payment was successful: we do our best to ensure every check payment reaches the intended destination. Once checks are deposited they will be moved from the "Payments" tab to the "Paid" tab within Ramp Bill Pay.
Cancelling a check: you have the ability to cancel issued check payments directly in Ramp prior to the check being deposited by your vendor. Simply log in to Ramp, navigate to the “Payments” tab within Bill pay, and select “Cancel Payment” next to the bill.
Marking check bills as paid: Ramp will mark a bill as paid within your ERP as soon as the funds have been withdrawn from your bank account. Check payments will be marked as paid on Ramp as soon as your vendor cashes the check.
Paying by wire
You can now pay your international vendors in USD on Ramp. The ability to pay in foreign currency is coming shortly.
When setting up a new vendor on Ramp, simply enter the country that you are paying your vendor to. Afterwards, you'll be able to either enter your vendors SWIFT and IBAN (or IBAN equivalent) codes or request that information from your vendor on Ramp.
Payment timelines: Ramp will first ACH debit your connected account for the required funds in USD which may take between 1-4 business days. Then, Ramp will wire the payment to your vendor which can take up to an additional 1-5 business days.
When are bills marked as paid: Bill payments via wire will be marked as paid in your connected ERP once Ramp withdraws (debits) funds from your connected account. The bill payment will be marked as paid in Ramp once the bill payment funds have been credited and received by your vendor.
Paying cross-border
Currently, you can pay to over 150 different countries on Ramp internationally for vendors in USD.
Paying in foreign currencies is coming to the platform shortly.
