Slack integration: Set up for admins

Note: This article primarily applies to Ramp Administrators.

Overview

Ramp provides finance teams the ability to receive real-time finance alerts and handle common requests directly through Slack. In addition, your team can request funds and get approved without ever leaving your workspace.

What the integration supports

The integration allows your company to receive the following alerts and take the following actions:

  1. Receiving business alerts —> Admins can set up which channel (public or private) to receive business alerts within Ramp. Admins can also configure which alerts are sent.
  2. Viewing business activity —> Admins can set up which channel (public or private) to receive the full list of Ramp transactions. It cannot be filtered by a specific manager or team.
  3. Requesting funds —> By typing the command /ramp new anywhere in Slack, Employees can request funds to their Managers or Admins.
  4. Issuing new funds —> Admins and Managers can also create funds instantly by using the /ramp new command.
  5. Approving, editing or rejecting requests —> Any requests are routed to the right person based on your Ramp configuration: Admins can approve any request while Managers can only approve requests made by people they directly manage. Admins and Managers can now approve, edit, or reject the request directly in Slack. Don't worry - all funds created or requested on Slack will appear as usual on the Ramp dashboard, along with the full audit trail of requests and approvals.
  6. Approving, editing or rejecting reimbursement requests —> Any reimbursement requests are routed to the right person based on your Ramp configuration
  7. Approving or rejecting bills —> Any bills are routed to the right person based on your Ramp configuration

Managing the Ramp Slack integration

Ramp Admins can set up the integration with Slack from the settings section of their Ramp dashboard in just a few clicks. Note: the steps should be completed by someone who has sufficient access to your Slack instance.

Connecting to Slack

  1. Navigate to the Integrations from within the Company page on your Ramp dashboard
  2. Select Integrations > Slack
  3. You can read a little more about our Slack Integration before connecting, and when you are ready to connect your Slack workspace, click Add to Slack
  4. You will be taken to Slack, where you can read about the permissions our integration asks for. Click “Allow” when you are ready to connect
  5. That's it

Configuring your channel preferences

Once connected, you can follow these steps to enable business activity alerts or all transaction notifications. You can set up two different channels for alerts in your Slack workspace: 1) Business Activity and 2) All Transactions

  1. Select a channel in your workspace from a drop-down menu. The channel picker lists the public channels in your workspace.
  2. To connect a private channel, go back to Slack and type “/invite @Ramp” inside your private channel. Then click “Refresh channel list” on Ramp.
  3. Your business activity alerts are now connected!
  4. Customize your notifications by using the toggles

Note: If a Slack channel is private, it may not show up on Ramp to complete the integration. You can follow these steps to fix this:

  1. Make the channel public temporarily.
  2. Add the channel from the dropdown.
  3. Make the channel private afterward - the connection will still be maintained on our end.

Disconnecting from Slack

If you decide after implementing the integration that you'd like to disable it, you have a few options:

  1. You can keep the integration but unsubscribe from the business activity alerts or all transaction alerts.
  2. You can also disconnect the entire integration by clicking “Disconnect Slack Integration”
