When shopping online, merchants may request additional information to confirm the transaction is legitimate. This process, known as 3D secure or Verified by Visa, is an added layer of fraud protection that protects both you and and the merchant from possible fraudulent activity.
When a merchant requests this information, Ramp sends an email and SMS to your account asking you to confirm this activity. Once confirmed, the checkout will proceed, and your card will get charged.
Please Note: Your transaction may get declined even after you confirm this activity. Transactions may be declined due to our category restrictions, merchant restrictions or spending limits. Confirming this activity does not override these rules.
More about 3DS
3DS stands for 3-D Secure, which is a protocol created by Visa, MasterCard and other credit card networks to help prevent fraud when customers make online purchases.
3DS uses additional verification measures beyond the standard card number, expiration date and CVV. It requires customers to authenticate their identity by providing extra information, such as a password or a one-time code sent to their phone. This helps to verify that the customer is the legitimate cardholder, and is not someone attempting to make a fraudulent transaction.
By using 3DS, online merchants can reduce the risk of fraudulent purchases and confidently accept payments from their customers. It also helps customers feel secure when making online purchases, knowing that they don't have to worry about their card details being stolen.
