Cards for Canadian Businesses
Overview
Ramp issues CAD and USD Visa cards to Canadian businesses at no additional cost. CAD cards are available as both physical and virtual cards. USD cards are virtual only.
Cards in other currencies (GBP, EUR, etc.) are not available through our Canadian offering. Multi-currency card issuing requires businesses to onboard to Ramp Enterprise through our U.S. Ramp offering.

Choosing between CAD and USD cards
Having both card types available gives your team the flexibility to minimize foreign exchange fees.
Use your CAD card for:
- Purchases from Canadian vendors
- Subscriptions and software billed in CAD
- Any transaction where the vendor charges in Canadian dollars
Use your USD card for:
- US vendors and SaaS tools billed in USD
- Cross-border purchases in US dollars
- Travel booked through US platforms (most airlines and hotels charge in USD)
Foreign exchange fees: If you use a CAD card for a USD transaction (or vice versa), a foreign exchange fee applies. Issuing the right currency card for the right spend avoids this.
Physical cards
Physical cards are available for CAD cards only and are shipped to Canadian addresses only. USD cards are virtual only. If your team includes employees outside Canada, issue them virtual cards — these work anywhere Visa is accepted and can be added to Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Physical CAD cards typically arrive within 7–10 business days of issuance. Rush shipping is not available at this time.
Cashback
Canadian cardholders earn 1% cashback on all eligible spend, on both CAD and USD cards. This rate is fixed and is not subject to adjustment.
Cashback accrues monthly and is applied as a statement credit. Cashback earned on USD cards is credited in USD. Cashback on CAD cards is credited in CAD.
Statement payments
CAD and USD card statements are generated and settled separately. Each statement is debited from the bank account you connect for that currency.
CAD card statements
CAD statement payments are collected via PAD (Pre-Authorized Debit). During setup, you'll be asked to authorize a PAD agreement, which permits Ramp to debit your Canadian bank account for outstanding CAD statement balances. Allow approximately 5–7 business days for CAD statement payments to process.
USD card statements
USD statement payments are debited from the USD bank account you connect for your Canadian entity. Canadian-domiciled USD bank accounts are supported — a US-domiciled account is not required.
- If your USD bank account is domiciled in Canada, Ramp collects the payment through the applicable Canadian payment rail. Allow approximately 3–5 business days for processing.
- If your USD bank account is domiciled in the United States, Ramp collects payment via ACH. Allow approximately 2–3 business days for processing.
Statement payment dates are set monthly and can be reviewed in your account settings.
Frequently asked questions
Can I ship physical cards to a US address?
No. Physical cards can only be shipped to Canadian addresses. For employees outside Canada, issue virtual cards instead.
Can I issue cards in currencies other than CAD and USD?
Not on the standard Canada plan. Multi-currency cards in GBP, EUR, and other currencies are available through Ramp Enterprise available for businesses with at least 1 U.S. entity.
How do I set spend controls on a card?
An admin can set spend controls per card under Cards in your Ramp account. You can configure a monthly spending limit, restrict spending to specific merchant categories, or limit the card to specific merchants.
How does cashback work if I have both CAD and USD cards?
You earn 1% cashback on eligible spend on both card types. Cashback is tracked and credited separately by currency.
Are there any restrictions on virtual cards?
Virtual cards have the same spend control options as physical cards. They can be single-use or recurring and can be used anywhere Visa is accepted online or added to a mobile wallet. USD cards for Canadian businesses are issued as virtual cards only.
What happens if a card is lost or stolen?
You can lock or cancel a card immediately from the Ramp app or web dashboard. A replacement physical card can be issued and will ship within 7–10 business days.
