Auto-Match Receipts from Your Camera Roll
Save time on expense management by connecting your iOS device's camera roll to Ramp. Using Apple Intelligence, Ramp can automatically find and match receipt photos to your transactions — no manual searching or uploading required.
How it works
When you connect your camera roll, Ramp retrieves your open transactions and searches your device's photos for matching receipts. Ramp looks only at three data points per transaction:
- Merchant name
- Date
- Amount
No receipt image or photo data ever leaves your device until you review and confirm a match. Ramp and your employer cannot access any detected receipts unless you explicitly approve them.
Setting it up
- Open the Ramp iOS app on your device
- Click on your profile icon in the upper left-hand corner
- Scroll to Receipt uploads
- Toggle on "Allow photo access" and grant Ramp permission to access your photos when prompted.
- Ramp will begin scanning your camera roll locally for receipt matches.
Note: This feature requires an iPhone with Apple Intelligence support (iPhone 15 Pro or later, running iOS 26 or higher).
Reviewing and confirming matches
When Ramp finds a potential receipt match, the next time you open the app, you'll see a message pop up that says “Ramp matched a receipt." From there:
- Tap the match suggestion.
- Review the detected receipt and the transaction it's been matched to.
- Tap Attach to attach the receipt, or Dismiss to skip it.
Only confirmed receipts are uploaded to Ramp and shared with your finance team.
Privacy and security
Your privacy is a priority. Here's what you should know:
- All matching happens on your device. Ramp does not send your photos or camera roll data to any server during the matching process.
- Ramp only searches for what it needs. The app matches against a transaction list it already has — merchant name, date, and amount — and nothing more.
- You're always in control. No receipt is uploaded or shared until you review and confirm it. Neither Ramp nor your employer can see a receipt unless you approve the match.
- You can disconnect at any time by going to your profile icon > Receipt uploads and toggling off “Find receipts in my photo library”
Frequently asked questions
Does Ramp scan all of my photos?
The app only looks at photos taken shortly after you make a transaction that requires a receipt. Ramp asks the device's Apple Intelligence model to determine whether they contain the expected amount, date, and merchant name. If it finds any matches, Ramp notes them and asks for your confirmation the next time you open the app. Nothing is uploaded to the server until you confirm.
Can my employer see my photos?
No. Your employer and Ramp only gain access to a receipt after you personally confirm a match. Unmatched or dismissed photos are never visible to anyone but you.
What if a receipt is matched incorrectly?
Simply tap Dismiss on the suggested match. The photo will not be uploaded, and you can manually upload the correct receipt if needed.
Does this work on Android?
Currently, automatic camera roll matching is available on iPhone only, as it relies on Apple Intelligence. Android support may be available in the future.
Do I need to keep the app open for it to find receipts?
No. Ramp can surface receipt matches in the background and notify you when a match is found.
Will a receipt be matched to a transaction that already has one?
No, Ramp only matches to transactions that require a receipt and currently don't have one attached.
