Advanced filtering on reporting tables
Ramp’s enhanced date filtering and improved filter actions make it faster and more precise to segment and navigate data across Bill Pay, Card Transactions, Vendors, and other reporting tables. The goal is to enable finance teams to build expressive, predictable filters and find the exact records they need quickly.
What you need to know
- Tables support multiple date-related filters applied at the same time. For example, filter Bill Pay by both Invoice date and Payment send date concurrently.
- Each table has a designated primary date filter near the main search bar, such as Invoice date on Bill Pay or Card transaction date on Card Transactions.
- Additional date filters appear as badges below the primary filter, making it easy to layer criteria.
- Common ranges include Today , Yesterday , This month , Last month , and custom ranges.
Methods of filtering
AI search on tables
Last updated: January 2026
AI search helps you find exactly what you're looking for in Ramp tables using natural language. Instead of manually selecting multiple filters, you can type queries like "Meals over $200 last month" and the system will apply the appropriate filters for you.
How AI search works
AI search is an additive experience designed to help you filter tables faster without changing how tables work. When you use the Ask option in table filters, here's what happens:
-
Immediate text search — As soon as you press Enter, your search runs against the table as a text search so you can see initial results right away.
-
AI analysis — At the same time, AI analyzes your query to understand what filters, sorts, or groupings would best match your intent. The AI has access to all of the available filters, groups, and sorts in the table.
-
Smart results — Based on what the AI finds:
- If your text search returns results : The AI will suggest filters in a popup. You can review and decide whether to apply them.
- If your text search returns no results : The AI will automatically apply the filters it identified, since that's likely more helpful than showing an empty table.
This additive approach ensures you always see something useful — either your text search results with optional AI-suggested refinements, or AI-applied filters when text search alone doesn't find matches.
Using AI search
- Click on the Search or filter field in any table with filters
- You'll see rotating example queries that show what kinds of searches work well
- Type your query in natural language
- Press Enter or select Ask: [your query] from the dropdown
While AI search is processing, you'll see an animated badge with your search text and "Thinking..." displayed.
Reviewing suggested filters
When AI search suggests filters (instead of applying them automatically), a popup will appear anchored to the search badge showing:
- A Suggested filter or Suggested filters badge
- The filters, sorts, or groupings the AI identified
- Keyboard shortcuts for quick actions
To accept the suggestions:
- Press Y on your keyboard, or
- Click Apply all
To dismiss the suggestions:
- Press N on your keyboard, or
- Click the X button
To apply individual filters (when there are multiple suggestions):
- Click on specific suggestions to toggle them on or off
If you dismiss the suggestions, your original text search results will remain on the table.
Canceling a search
To cancel an AI search while it's processing:
- Hover over the animated badge and click the X button that appears
Clearing and resetting
You can use AI search to clear the table by typing "clear" or "reset" and pressing Enter. This will remove all applied filters and reset the table to its default state.
Example queries
AI search understands a variety of natural language patterns. Here are some examples by category:
Amounts and dates
- "Over $500 last month"
- "Between $100 and $200 in Q4"
- "Under $50 this week"
Status and states
- "Pending approval"
- "Missing receipts"
- "Cleared transactions"
Combining criteria
- "Meals over $200 last month"
- "Pending invoices from engineering vendors"
- "Failed payments in the last 7 days"
Sorting and grouping
- "Sort by amount descending"
- "Group by department"
Clearing the table
- "Clear"
- "Reset"
Where AI search is available
AI search is available on any table with filters. If AI search is available, you'll see example search queries rotating in the search placeholder text.
Tips for best results
Be specific when needed
- The AI will try to match your query to the most relevant filter
- If you search for "David Wallace," it may match to cardholder, next approver, or another person-related filter
- To target a specific filter, include it in your query: "next approver David Wallace" or "cardholder David Wallace"
Use clear time references
- "Last month," "Q4," "this week," and specific dates all work well
- "Recently" is less precise and may not filter as expected
Reference filter values directly
- "Pending" is clearer than "not yet approved"
- Use the same terminology you see in the table's existing filters
Combine multiple criteria
- AI search can handle complex queries like "Cleared transactions from software vendors over $1,000 last quarter"
Troubleshoot AI search filters
Filters aren't matching what I expected
- Try being more specific about which filter you want to target
- Check the existing filter options in the table to see what values are available
- Use explicit amounts and dates rather than relative terms like "large" or "recent"
I want to clear the AI search
- Click the X on the AI search badge to remove it
- Or type "clear" or "reset" and press Enter

Layered date filtering
Step-by-step
- Set primary and secondary date filters
- Locate the primary date filter near the search bar, e.g., Invoice date on Bill Pay. Pick a date or range.
- Add secondary date filters, e.g., Payment send date , Contract end date , which appear as badges below.
- Use filter actions consistently
- Use the Remove icon on the left side of a filter badge to clear it.
- Use the right-aligned actions to Apply , Clear , Reset , or Exclude as needed.
- Enter free-text search terms
- Click in the dedicated free-text search field to type vendor names or keywords.
- Edit or remove the resulting search badge next to the search bar to adjust your query.
Role-based functionality
For employees
- Quickly find relevant transactions or invoices by combining dates and amounts. Consistent action placement and keyboard autofocus speed up daily searches.
For managers
- Create detailed saved views using multiple date filters to monitor spend, contract statuses, and vendor health. The clearer search badge improves tracking by vendor.
For admins
- Configure robust reports with multi-date filters, free-text search, and consistent actions that behave the same across tables.
Use cases and examples
- Finance team reviewing bill payments: Use Invoice date and Payment send date together to find invoices sent last month but paid this month.
- AP analyst tracking card transactions: Filter by Card transaction date plus amount ranges to audit a period for reconciliation.
- Vendor manager monitoring renewals: Apply Contract start date and Contract end date together to see contracts ending soon, and use the search badge to find vendors by name.
- Ramp Banking team isolating arrivals: Filter by Payment arrival date and Due date to identify late payments or upcoming deadlines.
Best practices and tips
- Combine multiple date filters to fine-tune results, e.g., custom Invoice date range plus Payment send date: This month .
- Remember action placement: Remove on the left. Apply and Clear on the right.
- Use keyboard autofocus in filter inputs to minimize mouse usage and accelerate entry.
- Use search badges for vendors or keywords to keep text search separate from structured filters.
- Save views that leverage multiple date filters for recurring audits and reports.
